My magic mouse is heating (and so are the batteries). Is there a way to fix this?

Hello group,

My magic mouse suddenly started to heat. And the batteries did the same. It became really hot. I stopped using it, afraid that the batteries could explode or something...

Is there a way to fix this problem? (without buying a new one or sending my magic mouse to the repair shop?)

Thanks!

Salmo7,

It's okay. You hadn't mentioned what you had already done. At the bottom of the mouse is the battery compartment so if the batteries get hot, so too will the bottom of the mouse. You will have to try a new set of batteries before considering a replacement (they simply aren't repairable). Try not to use batteries from the same shop or pack because it is just possible yours may be fakes. This is more likely still if both batteries are warming up to similar levels.

Then I fear your problem lies with the mouse. But as you are on El Capitan and with Sierra on the horizon, I think it may be time to replace it anyway. The new version is specifically meant for the newer OSs so you would be looking to future needs. How long have you had the mouse?

I suppose it is 'just' possible that using it with El Capitan may be behind the overheating, though I have not heard of such before.

I have had the mouse for something like 4 years now. Maybe 5, time passes so quickly. And now that you tell, I am wondering if actually the troubles started with El Capitan... In fact, I have replaced my mouse with a non-magic mouse many months ago when the heating started to worry me and I just dropped the Magic Mouse in a drawer . It is just that yesterday I had a moment to spare and when I saw the Magic Mouse lying in my drawer, I told myself maybe I could try to fix that problem. But I guess the mouse is actually dead, right?...
